People were receiving safe, person-centred care from a staff team who understood their responsibilities and knew people well. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and were confident concerns would be responded to appropriately. Risks to individuals and within their home environments were generally well assessed and managed, with person-centred risk assessments in place to guide care delivery. Medicines were managed safely, although improvements were identified, which would strengthen the recording and clarity of audit processes. The service was organised around geographical areas, so people had regular staff who got to know them well. There were enough skilled staff to provide consistent care and support. Staff told us they felt supported and valued by managers. A staff member said, “They are kind and good employers. If I need anything they are there.”
People were involved in decisions about their care, and the provider was working in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Staff worked with health and social care professionals to meet people’s needs. Care records reflected people’s needs and preferences, and staff demonstrated a good understanding of people as individuals.
There was a positive and open culture within the service. Systems for governance and oversight were in place, the management team maintained this through monitoring, audits and regular contact with people and staff. Some audits needed to be further formalised and there needed to be improvements to ensure more consistent recording. The provider showed a commitment to continuous learning and improvement and took prompt action during and following the inspection to review and strengthen these areas.
