The assessment was completed due to the length of time since the last rated inspection.
There was a shared culture which placed people at the centre of the care and support they received. Staff were highly motivated to deliver care which was safe and person centred. The nominated individual, who was also the registered manager, valued the contribution of staff, people and stakeholders in developing the service. There was an ethos of continuous learning and strong links were being established with partner agencies to improve staff understanding of dementia and end of life care.
There was an awareness that whilst some care records were person-centred others needed additional information. New care plan formats and customer files, as well as a dementia assessment toolkit, were being introduced which would enhance the person-centred approach.
Staff welfare and support was a high priority for the provider, who had introduced several initiatives to support staff.
There were enough staff to meet people’s needs and rota management was being reviewed following feedback from people and staff. Staff put people first and were knowledgeable about their care and support needs. Any concerns were raised appropriately and responded to immediately by the management team.
People’s needs were assessed and regularly reviewed to ensure care and support was appropriate to meet their needs. Referrals to healthcare professionals were made in a timely manner, with people’s consent. Medicines were managed safely, and regular audits took place to identify any shortfalls which were immediately addressed.
