The service provided support to children with a learning disability and autistic children. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, Right care, Right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
Children received support from staff who knew them well. They were supported to access the community such as cycling, to the local park and swimming. Children were offered choices and were encouraged to be independent in some aspects of their care.
Risks were assessed and there were clear mitigations recorded for these. Staff had been recruited safely and received a range of training relevant to children’s needs. Environmental risks had been assessed in children’s homes. Medicines were managed safely.
Children’s needs were thoroughly assessed prior to them receiving support from the service. Staff liaised effectively with other professionals involved in children’s care to ensure continuity.
Relatives described staff as kind, caring and empathetic. Staff knew children well and supported them in line with their interests. The service was flexible and responsive.
The service was well led. Leaders had oversight of the service and were supporting to staff. There were a range of governance systems used to monitor the quality of the service.
