At the time of our assessment there were 26 people using the service. The assessment included 1 day on site visits, with other information and evidence reviewed remotely. This is the first assessment since the new provider ‘Aurem Care’ took over as the provider however the rating with the previous provider remained.
We found the service was in breach of legal regulation in relation to areas of risks not being managed in a safe way, the training and deployment of staff and good governance.
Risks to people were assessed, although some assessments did not always include all the necessary detail about their needs and information around people’s health needs were not always recorded by staff. There were gaps in staff knowledge and gaps around staff training. Improvements were required around the deployment of staff.
Activities were offered regularly, contributing positively to people’s daily experience, which identified opportunities to further develop dementia‑specific engagement and also further develop the dementia friendly environment..
Although we found some concerns with the management of medicines, on the whole medicines were administered as required. The registered manager addressed the concerns that we raised with medicines. Health conditions were monitored with input from relevant healthcare professionals, and referrals to external services were made promptly when needed.
Although, we found some areas of care were not delivered in a respectful way, staff interacted with people in a kind, and compassionate manner.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
