We assessed the service against the Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture guidance to determine whether the provider ensured that people with a learning disability and autistic people were treated with respect, equality, dignity, and given choices, independence, and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. At this inspection we found the provider treated people with respect and dignity and ensured people had their rights upheld.

People’s needs had been fully assessed and were regularly reviewed. Risk assessments had been completed and care plans informed staff how to keep people safe from harm. When people’s needs changed, care plans were updated to reflect this. Staff had the right skills, qualifications and experience to meet the needs of people and staff knew how to support people safely.

Staff followed safeguarding processes, and systems were effective to manage any safeguarding concerns. Records showed people had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy.

On the first day of inspection, we found issues around the general cleanliness of the home. We raised these concerns with the provider, who took immediate action to our feedback. On the second day of inspection these issues had been resolved.

Staff spoke positively about their roles and the support and encouragement they received from the management team. The provider generally treated people with kindness, empathy and respect. Staff were observed supporting people in ways which maintained their dignity, such as offering discreet personal care and helping individuals remain clean and comfortable. Relatives were welcomed and supported during visits.

Fewcott House had been awarded the Gold Standard Framework for end of life care meaning they had been assessed as providing a high standard of care at the end of a person’s life. They had also achieved accreditation with the Veteran Friendly Framework which means they tailor support to veterans and their families.
