What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 6 November 2025 (assessment visit 28 August 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

The Orchard is a ‘care home’ providing personal care and support to people living with mental health and/or learning disabilities. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 5 people with their personal care needs. The last assessment of The Orchard was published 7 January 2025 and rated good. This unannounced focused assessment was carried out to follow up on breaches of regulation found during the previous assessment. The overall rating for The Orchard has remained good and the provider was no longer in breach of any regulations. Medicines were managed safely; people received their prescribed medicines on time by trained staff. People had their rights respected and were supported to their lives in their chosen way. Care plans provided detailed guidance for staff in how to support people with their health and social care needs. Risks were well managed, and staff knew people well. Governance processes had improved and were effective in driving service improvement. The manager and provider had good oversight of the service, they spoke with passion of the care and support they provided. Lessons were learnt and changes implemented since our last assessment to improve the governance at the service. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
