What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 3 July 2025 (assessment visit 2 January 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of assessment: 20 January 2025 to 24 February 2025. We completed site visits on 20 January 2025 and 22 January 2025. Claremont Nursing Home is a nursing home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care and treatment of disease, disorder or injury. The service is registered for 52 people, at the time of our assessment, there were 30 people living at the service and 1 hospital admission. The service was last inspected in January 2023 and rated inadequate. We identified breaches of regulations relating to safe care and treatment, safeguarding, staffing and good governance. This assessment was conducted to follow up on their action plan. Whilst we saw some improvements, not enough improvements have been made and they were still in breach of regulation for good governance There had been a high turnover of management since our last inspection, therefore, this meant some systems and processes had not been consistently implemented. The current manager was new to that role and had not registered with the CQC at the time of the inspection. We found that people’s care plans were not always person-centre and consistent. People did not always receive their prescribed medicines due to medicines not being obtained a timely manner. However, people felt safe living at Claremont nursing home. They spoke highly of the staff. Staff were recruited safely. Staff understood safeguarding procedures and their role within this.

Safe
No rating
Safe – this means we looked for evidence that people were protected from abuse and avoidable harm. At our last assessment we rated this key question inadequate. At this assessment, the rating has changed to requires improvement. This meant some aspects of the service were not always safe and there was limited assurance about safety. There was an increased risk that people could be harmed. The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, safeguarding and staffing. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of these regulations.
-
Effective
Good
Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. At our last assessment we rated this key question as good. At this assessment the rating has remained the same. This meant people’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.
-
Caring
Good
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. At our last inspection we rated this key question good. At this assessment, the rating has remained good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.
-
Responsive
Good
Responsive – this means we looked for evidence the provider met people’s needs. At our last assessment we rated this key question good. At this assessment the rating has remained good. This meant people’s needs were met through good organisation and delivery.
-
Well-led
No rating
Well-led – this means we looked for evidence that service leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture. At our last inspection we rated this key question inadequate. At this assessment the rating has changed to requires improvement. This meant the service management and leadership was inconsistent. Leaders and the culture they created did not always support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care. The service did not have an effective quality assurance system which meant that shortfalls were not always identified or addressed promptly. Issues were identified at the last inspection and while some improvements have been made, the provider remains in breach of the regulations in relation to good governance.
