What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 12 November 2025 (assessment visit 1 October 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Westbourne House Nursing Home is a care home which provides personal and nursing care for up to 71 people with a range of medical and mental health needs. At the time of the inspection there were 24 people living at the home on a long stay basis. The home also provides intermediate care for people who are admitted to the service from the from local hospitals. Intermediate care is undertaken via a National Health Service contract to help ease the pressures on the acute health care services in the area. People receiving intermediate care were receiving rehabilitation to support them to return home or to an alternative care setting. At the time of this inspection the service was supporting 33 people who were using the service on a temporary basis; some of whom only used the service for a very short period after being discharged from hospital. At the last inspection, we rated this service as ‘Good’. Following this assessment, the rating remains ‘Good’.

We found that the service worked in successful partnership with other health care professionals to ensure people received effective support. Risks associated with people’s care were assessed, monitored and reviewed on a regular basis to ensure safe outcomes for the people living at the service. People were safeguarded from abuse, and accidents and incidents were monitored to see if lessons could be learnt to keep people safe and improve practice. We found staffing levels were sufficient and staff had the skills and knowledge to deliver good quality care.Staff treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and delivered support in line with people’s preferences.Managers were visible in the service and staff praised the support they received from their leaders. The service cared and supported staff well-being. Medicines were mostly managed safely at the service. However, we identified some medicine shortfalls on one unit, which were immediately addressed and had no impact on people receiving their medicines safely.
