What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 2 September 2024 (assessment visit 21 May 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Dates of assessment 12 June to 26 June 2024. Ridgemount provides residential care and support to people within a residential setting in Banstead Surrey. Ridgemount is one of a group of homes owned by a national provider, Anchor Hanover Group. This assessment was prompted by information of concern received by CQC and the length of time since this service was last inspected. Concerns raised included staff shortages; poor staff deployment within the home and unsafe moving and handling. The rating at our last inspection (published 20 August 2021) was requires improvement. At this assessment, we reviewed 9 quality statements in Safe, Caring and Well-led only. The rating did not change and remains requires improvement.

Safe
Good
People received safe care and support from staff who understood their needs and followed healthcare guidance from professionals. Staff knew how to safely support people around their individual risks and how to protect people from abuse and neglect. Staff received appropriate training and were recruited safely. The provider ensured there were enough well-trained staff to provide support to people in a timely and safe way. The home environment was safe, clean and met people's needs.

Caring
Good
People told us they were supported staff who were kind and considerate to them and who encouraged their independence and freedom of choice. Staff supported people in a way which respected people’s choices and preferences. Staff’s wellbeing was supported by the provider and management team to enable them to effectively provide person centred care to people. Systems and processes were in place to support people’s professional development and their well-being. Staff were provided with opportunities to feedback about their roles.

Well-led
No rating
The provider had a schedule of quality assurance systems in place to support them to be able to review and assess the service delivery. However, whilst people received safe care, these audits were not always effective in identifying some areas of improvement identified by inspectors on the day of assessment. Following this assessment, the provider submitted supporting documentation to evidence improvements made since the assessment day. The culture of the home was open, honest and transparent, with people and staff treated fairly and their diversities respected. Feedback from staff about the leadership team was predominately positive. They told us the management team was supportive and encouraged staff to speak up and raise concerns without fear of discrimination. They gave staff, people and relatives the opportunities to provide feedback and to freely access the registered manager and other senior members of staff. Leadership was sustained through safe and effective recruitment.
