What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 21 August 2025 (assessment visit 3 April 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of assessment: 28 April 2025 to 13 May 2025. We completed this assessment to follow up on concerns received about the service. We looked at how Eglantine Villa Care Home assessed and planned for people's care needs, how they trained and supervised staff to support people according to their needs and preferences. Eglantine Villa Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing and personal care for up to 49 people. The service is registered to provide support to older people, and people living with dementia. There were 46 people living at the service, some of whom had complex health needs. There were 2 units within the service Jasmine (providing mainly dementia care and support) and Lavender (providing mainly nursing care and support). We carried out a short observational framework for inspection (SOFI) and observed staff engaging with people in a kind and patient way. SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

We identified some areas of improvement needed including medicines management, risk management, staff deployment, records relating to fluid intake, oral health and repositioning records. However, staff knew people well, so the impact on people had been minimised. Staff treated people with kindness and people told us they felt well looked after and enjoyed living at Eglantine Villa Care Home. Staff spent time with people encouraging them to participate in activities and maintain important relationships with their families. Staff told us they received appropriate training and support to enable them to care for people safely. Feedback from people and relatives was mainly positive and we observed some kind and caring interactions between staff and people. Most relatives felt involved and told us communication was good. The service appeared clean and tidy, and people’s rooms were personalised. The provider and management were extremely innovative and supported new initiatives to improve people’s safety and experiences. Staff received excellent welfare and support packages to support them in their lives.
