What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 6 March 2026 (assessment visit 9 December 2025). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

Date of assessment: 26 January to 11 February 2026. Chatterwood Nursing Home provides the regulated activities of personal and nursing care, and treatment to younger and older people who may be living with dementia, or a physical disability. We undertook this comprehensive inspection to check the provider’s progress in meeting the breach of governance and record keeping identified at their last inspection, published on 09 April 2025. The provider had made improvements both in relation to record keeping and governance, but further work was still required to ensure people’s monitoring records accurately reflected the care staff provided. The provider needed to ensure consistency in the provision of key information across people’s clinical care plans to ensure staff had clear written guidance to follow, and all aspects of governance were sufficiently robust. Whilst the provider ensured learning took place from safety events which occurred either within the home or across their other services. The lack of effective risk and quality monitoring systems meant they were not always aware of all shortfalls in order to address them. The service remains in breach of good governance. Safeguarding events were referred to the local authority as required. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) had not always been informed of all safeguarding events at the service. This resulted in a new breach of notification of other incidents. The provider was already working on further improvements in relation to record keeping and had acted promptly in response to our feedback. Since the last inspection, the registered manager left the service in November 2025. The service has been managed in the interim by the registered manager from 1 of the provider’s other homes. The provider was appointing a new registered manager. However, the required improvements identified at the previous inspection in relation to recruitment processes had been made. People were cared for in an environment which was clean, safe, suitable for their needs and well maintained. People’s call bell bells were within their reach. People’s needs were assessed and they had planned outcomes from their care. People’s consent to their care was sought and where people were deprived of their liberty, legal requirements were met. Staff worked together as a team and with external professionals to plan and deliver people’s care. Staff knew people well and treated them with kindness and compassion. People’s dignity was upheld during the provision of their care. Staff knew people well and understood their needs and preferences. People were well cared for by staff and well presented. People felt there were sufficient staff to support them. People had access to a range of activities, including entertainment, outings, crafts, and religious services. People’s visitors felt welcomed and families felt involved in their loved one’s care. People who needed to be cared for in their bedrooms had activity schedules which had been adapted to reflect their needs. People had equal experiences and outcomes because of their care. Staff had completed relevant training to enable them to meet people’s needs.
