We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We identified the provider was meeting the standards of care set out in this guidance.

At the time of the assessment, the service was led by an interim manager, who was also the registered manager of another of the provider’s services. They had submitted an application to become the registered manager at Maple View. While the interim manager demonstrated capability in overseeing 2 services, they were also supporting a third location, which placed considerable demands on their time and availability.

Staff were aware of their responsibilities to safeguard people from abuse. At the time of the assessment, the interim manager was actively investigating a concern related to safe care and treatment.

There were sufficient staff deployed to meet the individual and often complex care and wellbeing needs of people living at the service. Recruitment processes were safe and robust, and staff had access to appropriate training to ensure care was delivered safely and effectively. However, medicines processes required improvement.

The provider needed to undertake further work to ensure consistency and stability across the workforce. Staff reported being moved between services to cover staffing needs, which impacted continuity. Despite these challenges, team morale remained positive.

The service worked collaboratively with healthcare professionals to mitigate risks. Health appointments were maintained, and records were kept of any concerns.

Staff received training in equality and diversity, as well as learning disability and autism, to help them understand and meet people’s diverse needs.

The service was in the process of transitioning to online support plans. While this was nearly complete, some sections still required finalisation and update. Risk assessments were in place with clear guidance for staff to follow.

The environment was clean and well maintained. Regular environmental safety checks were completed. The management team had a range of audits in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service, including medicines management, infection prevention, and health and safety audits.
