We initiated an assessment of the service on 22 February 2024. The assessment was prompted by a review of information we held about this service. Following this assessment, the service remains rated good.
We found good practice in relation to risk management. Through our observations it was clear staff knew people well and took the necessary action to protect them from the risk of harm. Staff were caring and our observations found they had formed close bonds with the people living at the home. Staff ensured people's independence was promoted and choices respected. We identified some improvements were needed to the level of detail in people's care plans and staff training. The registered manager was responsive to our findings and outlined the action they would take to improve these areas. You can find more details about our findings in the evidence category findings below.

Safe
Good
People were kept safe and protected from harm. Staff had a comprehensive understanding of abuse and knew what to do to make sure people were protected. People felt comfortable to raise concerns about their safety.
Staff gave people information about risks to their safety and supported people to manage risk so they had as much control and independence as possible. However, not all risk assessments contained the required level of detail to guide staff in reducing the risk of harm.
The environment and equipment was well maintained and action was taken to continually assess and reduce environmental hazards.
There were enough competent staff deployed to meet the needs of the people living at the home. However, the tools used to calculate the staffing levels did not provide a clear rationale for how the number of staff had been determined. Overall, staff were safely recruited and recruitment checks were carried out as standard practice. Staff had the right mix of skills to make sure that practice was safe. However, we identified improvements were needed to ensure staff received training in line with best practice guidance.
-
Caring
Good
People received consistent support from familiar staff who understood their needs. People had as much choice and control as possible in their lives. People's independence was promoted during interactions with staff and we observed their relationships with staff were positive. However, records relating to the care and treatment provided contained language that was not always in keeping with promoting independence or choice.
-
Responsive
Good
People were supported to make decisions about their care. Staff gave information to people about potential sources of external support and advice to help them achieve good outcomes such as ensuring people were signposted to advocacy services when needed.
