We found no concerns in relation to the premises or infection prevention and control. Environmental concerns had been addressed and the home had undergone some refurbishment and redecoration. Risks were assessed and mitigated although some risk assessments would benefit from more detail.

Staff worked as a team to ensure people received timely and effective care. They worked well with other professionals to ensure their health and wellbeing needs were met in a timely manner.

Governance systems were in place and were being used to drive improvements. However, audits of medicines records were not completed to ensure they were accurate, up to date and contemporaneous. We discussed this with the management team who agreed this was an area for improvement.

  1. Safe

    Good

Systems were in place to assess and mitigate risks, however some risk assessments would benefit from more detail. People told us they felt safe and were cared for by staff who knew them well. There was a culture of openness and learning from incidents and concerns to improve the quality of care provided. Processes were in place to ensure the safety of the premises and equipment.

Audits of medicines records had not been completed and they were not always accurate and up to date. We found no evidence of impact on people and the management team agreed concerns would have been picked up if audits were completed.

  2. Effective

    Good

Staff worked well together to involve people in decisions around their needs. People were involved in decisions around their care and were supported to manage their health and wellbeing. Staff understood the principles of the Mental Capacity Act and sought consent from people. Where people had a lasting power of attorney, they were involved in decision making and people could access the support of an advocate if needed.

  3. Caring

    Good

Staff knew people well and worked together to promote people’s independence and involve them in decision making around their care and wellbeing.

  4. Well-led
