We found the following examples of good practice.

The service was clean, smelt fresh and was tidy throughout. Records were in place to demonstrate cleaning had taken place. When furnishings or décor looked worn, plans were in place to address these.

Detailed risk assessments were in place for people who used the service which included guidance for staff to follow should the person display symptoms of COVID-19, how to safely access the community and visitors to the service.

People continued to have visitors and the registered manager recognised the benefit this had on people's emotional well-being. Consideration was also given to how visitors could safely access the service in the event of an outbreak.

Visitors were screened for any symptoms of COVID-19 on arrival, had to complete a lateral flow test and had access to Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Where required, people were asked to demonstrate their vaccination status.

During the pandemic staff were creative in considering how people's needs could continue to be met including having stimulating activity. People had access to a large garden with sensory areas within it. There was also a dome, which facilitated outdoor visits, and people now used this space as part of their home.

Staff had plentiful access to PPE and wore this appropriately. Staff had undertaken in-house training in relation to infection prevention and control and the management team routinely assessed their competency.
