We carried out this assessment to confirm that the previous rating of Good remains accurate. Where we found that practice has continued to meet a good standard, we have not reported in detail on these areas and have focused our findings on any areas where improvement was needed or where exceptional practice was found.

The overall rating of the service is Good based on the findings at the inspection.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence, and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People were supported by enough safely recruited staff, who had the skills and knowledge to provide effective support. People received their medicines when they needed them, and the environment was safe and accessible to people’s individual needs.

People’s risks were assessed and monitored whilst being supported to have maximum choice and control over their lives. People were involved in the planning and review of their care, which ensured people received personalised care in line with their preferences and diverse needs.

People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment with appropriate legal authority. In care homes, this can be done through a procedure called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS), which is part of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA and how they managed DoLS within the service. We found staff and management worked within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) authorisations were appropriately applied for and overseen. People were not subject to unlawful or excessive restrictions they had choice control and freedom over their lives.

People were supported by caring and compassionate staff who promoted choices in a way people understood. Staff provided dignified care and respected people’s privacy. People’s independence was promoted by staff in all areas of their life to ensure people lived the life they wanted.

The governance systems in place ensured improvements were made and lessons were learnt when things went wrong. The provider’s vision was shared across the staff group, which focused on person centred care, choice, independence and inclusion. The management team were supportive and approachable, and promoted a collaborative approach to continually learning and improving the service.
