Manton Heights Care Centre is a care home for up to 91 people, some of whom live with dementia or brain injury. At the time of this assessment, the service supported 51 people in the main building and 11 people in the Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) unit. At our last assessment the provider was in breach of regulations in relation to safe care, safeguarding, premises, dignity and respect and governance. At this assessment they were no longer in breach although further improvement was needed in some areas.

The service had systems in place to support safe care, although some improvements were needed to ensure these were applied consistently. There were times where incidents were not clearly recognised or reported. Records did not always fully show how risks and outcomes were monitored. Some environmental risks were not addressed as quickly as they should have been. Medicines were generally managed safely, but some areas required strengthening. The provider was aware of these issues and took action during the assessment to improve oversight, reporting, staff practice and documentation.

People received kind and person‑centred care. Staff knew people well and supported them in ways that respected their dignity, independence and preferences. Staff worked well together and there were enough skilled staff to meet people’s needs. People were supported to access healthcare and maintain their wellbeing, with staff responding appropriately when needs changed.

The ABI unit demonstrated particularly strong practice, with a clear focus on rehabilitation and helping people regain independence. Staff worked closely with families and professionals to provide joined‑up and consistent care.

Leadership had improved under the new manager. Staff felt supported and able to speak up. The manager responded positively to feedback and took prompt action to address issues identified during the assessment.
