We assessed the home against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

We found the home was meeting this guidance. The service had worked hard to develop positive links with its local community.

Staff delivered care in line with people’s care plans and risk assessments. A new care planning system had recently been introduced, and the registered manager had plans to develop and improve consistency in implementation for all people.

Recruitment processes were safe and there were enough staff on duty. Staff told us that their wellbeing was cared for. There was a constant staff team over time. A relative told us, “The staff have been consistent. There has always been staff that my relative knows.”

The registered manager had developed a culture in the home, one of teamwork, shared direction, openness and inclusion within the home and there was positive feedback from staff, relatives and professionals about them. One relative told us, “The manager is very responsive.” Staff received training to carry out their role and were supported by the registered manager to develop over time.

Safeguarding procedures were in place, and information was readily available so that staff knew how to raise concerns. The home followed the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). Where people needed to have restrictions in place, to keep them safe, this was done in their best interest . and followed correct legal procedures, known as Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS).

We received positive feedback from health and social care professionals who worked with the home, and people had access to medical care when needed.

Governance systems were operating effectively, and this included oversight by the provider. Safe medicines management systems were in place, and people received their medicines safely as prescribed.

Any accidents, incidents and complaints were learnt from to prevent recurrence and improve outcomes in the future.
