What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 10 June 2026 (assessment visit 19 January 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of assessment 23 April to 13 May 2026. We carried out an unannounced visit on the 23 April 2026 and an announced visit on the 29 April 2026. Coppice Lodge is a care home who are registered to provide accommodation and support to younger and older adults with mental health conditions, learning disabilities and autistic people. The last rating for this service was Requires Improvement (published 20 November 2019). This assessment was conducted due to the length of time since our last rating. At the previous inspection, there was no registered manager in post and staff were not supported by consistent leadership, which meant oversight of quality and safety was not fully embedded. We also found a culture where staff did not escalate concerns in a timely way, and improvements were needed to the environment, including replacing worn furniture.

At this inspection, a new manager had been appointed in March 2025 and had registered with the Care Quality Commission. They had developed an open and transparent culture where staff understood their responsibilities to raise concerns and recognised the importance of being open. The manager demonstrated passion and commitment to enabling people living at Coppice Lodge to live their best lives. Improvements had been made to the environment, with a full refurbishment completed. The service was homely, welcoming and clean.
Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where people do receive support, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of the inspection there was 1 person receiving regulated activity.
We assessed the service against Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture to determine whether people with a learning disability and autistic people were supported in ways that promoted dignity, equality, choice, independence and access to their community.
Right support:
The provider ensured people received person-centred care that met their individual needs and promoted choice, independence and inclusion. Staff supported people to access health services, engage with their community and achieve their personal goals.
Right care:
Staff delivered care with kindness and respect, involving people in decisions and using communication and health action plans to provide consistent, tailored support. They listened to feedback, responded to concerns, and worked collaboratively with health professionals to achieve positive outcomes.
Right culture:
Leaders promoted a positive, inclusive culture focused on helping people live their best lives. The registered manager and staff valued people’s individuality, encouraged open communication, and kept care under review to ensure it reflected people’s changing needs and wishes.
