We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. We were assured the service met the principles of ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ and people received safe, person-centred and outcomes focussed care and support.
There was a strong learning culture and the provider collaborated with people and partners to establish safe systems of care. People were supported by consistent staff, who had the skills and training to be able to carry out their role. Medicines were managed safely and people’s health needs were actively promoted. The home was well maintained and homely with a range of communal areas and good access to the local community. It was situated in a suburban road and did not stand out as being a care home. People’s care and support was monitored and reviewed to continuously improve this.
Staff were kind and caring, knew people well and enabled them to live as independently as possible. There was a warm and inclusive atmosphere in the home.
The provider had a clear shared vision and strategy, and the home was well supported by a cohesive management and quality team. There were a range of detailed audits and checks across these levels to ensure any shortfalls were identified and addressed. The registered manager had the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out their role and was respected and valued by people and the staff team. The service had a positive person-centred culture.
The provider was previously in breach of legal regulations in relation to good governance and the management of risk and medicines. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider is no longer in breach of legal regulations. We found the overall quality of the service had improved and the rating had changed from requires improvement to good.
