At the time of the inspection, 23 people were receiving support with personal care. CQC only assesses the care provided to people who receive the regulated activity of personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. We inspected the service due to its aged rating.
We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
People and their relatives gave positive feedback about the care provided. They told us people felt safe and received kind, respectful and person centred care from staff who understood their needs and preferences.
People were supported to maintain their independence and make choices about their care. The service provided continuity through familiar staff and adapted support when people’s needs or circumstances changed.
Staff received relevant training and understood their responsibilities for safeguarding people and responding to changes in their health. Staff told us they felt supported in their roles and received regular supervision.
There were some areas where further strengthening was needed. Care records did not always contain sufficient detail about risks, medicines or relevant professional guidance. However, staff had knowledge and knew how to manage people’s risks.
Staffing arrangements did not always allow sufficient travel time between calls or rest between shifts, and some calls were shorter than planned. The provider gave us assurances they would review staffing arrangements to address the shortfalls identified.
Despite this, people and relatives told us they were satisfied with the timing and duration of their care calls.
The registered manager was responsive to our findings, provided assurances that the areas identified would be addressed and had already begun an action plan to make the required improvements.
