Read the rest of CQC's summary

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulates the personal care and support that people may receive. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care and nursing care. This includes help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating, and nursing tasks. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided.

Although the provider told us staff did not administer people’s medicines, we found they did apply topical creams which were prescribed by the GP. There were no medicines administration records in place for these. Instead, staff recorded on a topical cream chart. The provider took action to put appropriate records in place following our feedback.

People's care plans did not record their wishes or preferences about future care or end-of-life care. Although nobody required end-of-life care at the time of the assessment, the absence of this information meant staff may not have known people's wishes or preferences if their health deteriorated or their circumstances changed.

There were governance systems in place to monitor the quality of the service and identify areas for improvement. However, these had not identified the shortfalls we identified during the inspection.

People and relatives were positive about the care provided and told us they felt safe. They described staff as kind, respectful, reliable and professional. Care was personalised around people’s needs, preferences, routines and desired outcomes.

Staff promoted people’s independence, dignity and choice and responded flexibly when their needs changed. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and worked with healthcare professionals when people required additional support.

People said communication was good and they were kept informed about any development within the service. The service was involved in the local community and worked alongside external professionals.

People received safe care and support from staff who were well trained and qualified to meet their needs. There was oversight in place to monitor missed, late and cancelled calls.

Appropriate recruitment checks were in place to help ensure staff employed were suitable to care for people safely. The provider supported staff wellbeing and staff felt supported to give feedback.
