What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 22 August 2024 (assessment visit 6 August 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Candlelight Homecare Services Wimborne Area Office is a domiciliary care service providing a regulated activity of personal care. The service was providing care and support to people in their own homes. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. CQC only inspects where people receive personal care. This is help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of our inspection there were 73 people receiving personal care from the service. The assessment took place between 5 August and 8 August 2024. Since our last inspection improvements had been made at the service, these had been embedded and sustained. People had risk assessments in place for all their care and support needs. Medicines were managed safely, and an electronic system ensured changes were made when needed and medicines were administered on time. Lessons were learned and safeguarding procedures were followed. However, further improvements were implemented to ensure governance systems operated robustly within the service. The provider and registered manager were working towards further development and strengthening of the governance systems.

There were enough staff who were skilled to provide care and support, continuity of care was a focus of this service. People received medicines as prescribed, and improvements had meant practice was visible to the management team. Information about people’s needs was in place to ensure they could safely access other services. The provider's electronic care planning system was updated when things changed. Infection prevention and control measures were robust.

Well-led
Good
Improvements had been made to the governance systems within the service and had been sustained. However, they were not always robust to ensure the provider had adequate oversight. Improvements were immediately put into place to enable robust oversight. Leadership was visible within the service, management and office staff had defined roles and responsibilities. Links had been made with external professionals and relationships were effective for people. Staff were supported in their role and team working was actively sought with various recognition initiatives. People, their relatives and staff had confidence in the management of the service. Policies and procedures were in place to ensure the service operated safely.
