At the time of our assessment 52 people were living at the service. We carried out a comprehensive assessment of the service covering all quality statements, in all key questions. This assessment was carried out due to the length of time since the service’s last assessment.

People were protected and kept safe from harm. People told us they felt looked after at the service. The service had a positive learning culture, and people and staff told us they felt they could raise concerns, which the registered manager investigated effectively. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent.

Staff knew the needs of the people they cared for well and received training in all areas of their role. Staff had regular supervision to support their work and development at the service and told us they felt supported by the management team on site and were able to work well as a team. People’s care was personalised and care and support records were detailed, including key information about risk, a person’s ability to make decisions, and information about people’s lifestyle choices and preferences. We observed some positive person-centred interactions during our assessment, but during an observation of lunch we found some staff interactions to be task-focused. This was fed-back to the service, who were currently implementing learning from recent training in relation to enhancing the mealtime experience for people.

We found governance was effective, there was a range of audits completed which gave clear oversight of the service, and highlighted areas for improvement. These systems were embedded into practice, and the responsibility of completing outstanding actions was managed accordingly, leading to positive outcomes for people.
