What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 13 October 2026 (assessment visit 15 July 2026). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Date of assessment: 26 and 27 August 2026. Redcote House Residential Care Home is a residential home that supports older people, people under 65, and people living with dementia. The service can support up to 18 people. At the time of this assessment 12 people were living at the service. At our last assessment, we identified 3 breaches of the legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, good governance and fit and proper person employed. At this assessment the provider had failed to make all of the necessary improvements and remained in breach of legal regulations in relation to good governance. As the provider remained in breach of legal regulations at this assessment, we have published this information on our website. We will continue to monitor the service and carry out a further assessment to determine whether sufficient improvements have been made to achieve and maintain compliance with the regulations.

The provider had been responsive to feedback from our last assessment and made some improvements at the service, however there remained a number of areas that required further development. Incidents were not reviewed to ensure people’s safety. People were not always protected by effective safeguarding processes. Risks related to people's daily care and treatment, and the environment were mostly well-managed, but further developments were required to ensure consistency.
Records were in place to support safe transitions and provide external professionals with essential information. Most people and their relatives told us they felt safe. The provider assessed and managed the risk of infection. People received their prescribed medicines in a timely manner.
A range of assessment documents were used to assess and understand people’s needs. However, assessments around people’s hydration needs were not thorough to ensure people’s needs were fully understood. The provider planned and delivered people’s care and treatment with them. Staff worked together well in an organised manner. Where people showed signs of declining health or abilities these were mostly escalated to the appropriate health and social care professionals in a timely manner. People’s mealtime experience was not stimulating or engaging.
Quality assurance and service oversight processes were not consistently effective and did not fully protected people from the risk of potential harm. The provider had failed to address issues with care planning, quality assurance and leadership oversight since our last assessment, indicating a continued ineffective learning culture. There was a positive rapport between staff and people living at the service. The atmosphere at the home was calm and relaxed. At the time of our assessment there was no registered manager in post. The provider fostered a positive culture where people felt they could speak up and their voice would be heard. Mechanisms for staff supervision and performance appraisals were not being utilised by leaders.

Well-led – this means we looked for evidence that service leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture. Leaders and the culture they created did not always support the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care.
