We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’. This guidance supported judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choice, independence and access to local communities that most people take for granted.
Care plans and risks assessment needed improving to ensure they contained the most up to date information about people. The systems in place were not always effective in identifying concerns. Improvements were needed to ensure where lessons could be learnt, this information was used to make changes. Records did not always evidence how people were involved with making choices and all decisions. The provider needed to ensure people were consistently involved with their care, support and reviewing of this in a meaningful way to fully implement and embed the right support, right care, right culture guidance.
However, people were safeguarded from potential abuse as safeguarding procedures were in place and followed. Infection control was considered and medicines were managed safely. The principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 were understood. People’s homes were adapted to include things that were important to them and to meet their needs.
There were enough suitably trained and recruited staff that people liked and who knew them well. People participated in activities they appeared to enjoy. Staff felt listened to and involved with the service. They spoke positively about the support they received from the registered manager.
