What inspectors found
From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 15 October 2024 (assessment visit 11 June 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.
Stamford Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 90 older people some of whom were living with dementia. At the time of the inspection the service was supporting 86 people.
This was the first assessment carried out under our single assessment framework. This assessment was unannounced. The assessment was prompted in part due to concerns received from the local authority around staffing, cleanliness of premises, eating and drinking, health and safety and governance. We looked at the following quality statements; learning culture, safeguarding, involving people to manage risks, safe and effective staffing, infection prevention and control, medicines optimisation, delivering evidence-based care and treatment, capable, compassionate and inclusive leaders and governance and assurance. We did not assess all quality statements at this assessment. For those areas we did not assess, we used the ratings awarded at the last inspection to calculate the overall rating. We did not identify breaches of any Regulations during this assessment. We will continue to monitor information we receive about the service, which will help inform when we next assess them.

Safe
Good
Systems were in place to protect people from the risk of abuse and harm. People's support needs were risk assessed and care plans provided staff with the information they needed to manage the identified risk. Processes were in place to ensure staff were safely recruited. Recruitment checks included DBS checks, employment references and identity checks. Staff completed a thorough induction when they started their employment with the provider. Although staff received training, we found the completion dates for some training courses for a number of staff were not up to date. Medicines were managed consistently and safely in line with national guidance. However, we found discrepancies with the record keeping system.

Effective
Good
People had regular reviews of their care. People and relatives were able to discuss how things were going for them and talk about what they wanted their care and support to look like. Staff worked together with people’s care teams, so people were able to maintain their health and well-being. Staff understood how the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) impacted in the care they provided to people. People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.
-
Well-led
Good
The management team maintained a positive culture. Governance and management systems were in place to drive improvements. This included a range of audits which were undertaken regularly to monitor, review and improve the service people received. Staff were positive about their roles and told us they felt supported and knew how to seek advice, guidance and support.
