The assessment took place to follow up on concerns others had shared with us about the negative impact and safety concerns due to building works that were taking place.
We found that the provider had addressed the safety concerns and had worked with other professionals to help make sure the impact on people using the service was minimised.
We have rated the service good and found they were meeting the required standards. We found some improvements were needed to records, and some processes. We discussed these with the registered manager, and they told us they were taking action to make the improvements.

Safe
Good
The provider had been undertaking building works at the service for several months. There had been times when this was disruptive and external professionals had raised concerns about safety and the negative impact on people who lived at the service. The provider had worked with other professionals to try to minimise this impact. The service needed to be decorated and needed new flooring in areas following completion of the building works. The provider had plans for this.
The service was clean and there were checks on cleanliness. However, we found some of the practices needed improving to help ensure the spread of infection was being appropriately managed. We discussed this with the registered manager who agreed to review this and improve practice.
Accidents, incidents and adverse events were investigated and learnt from. Staff had a good understanding about risks and how to keep people safe. There were enough suitable staff to care for people and they had the training and support they needed to provide good quality care. People received their medicines in a safe way and as prescribed.
We did not assess all the quality statements within this key question. We did not identify concerns relating to these areas which we judged as being met at our last inspection.
-
Effective
Good
People's needs and choices were assessed and planned for. The staff had a good oversight of people's needs and how to care for them. Care plans were person centred. However, we found the provider had not always recorded planned care for all of people's needs or made sure care plans reflected changing needs. We discussed this with the registered manager who agreed to ensure these were reviewed and updated. We found staff had good knowledge and people's needs were being met. People were supported to stay healthy and see other medical professionals when needed. People had consented to their care and treatment.
We did not assess all the quality statements within this key question. We did not identify concerns relating to these areas which we judged as being met at our last inspection.
