Safe
Good
Safe – this means we looked for evidence that people were protected from abuse and avoidable harm. The provider took actions so that lessons were learnt when things had gone wrong. People had been supported to settle into the service and were supported with any other health appointments. People were safeguarded from abuse and avoidable harm. Risks were managed well and people were not restricted; they felt the environment was safe and kept clean. People told us there were enough staff to provide them with safe care and they received their medicines when needed.
-
Effective
Good
Effective – this means we looked for evidence that people’s care, treatment and support achieved good outcomes and promoted a good quality of life, based on best available evidence. People’s needs and clinical risks were assessed, and care and support delivered in line with current standards to achieve good outcomes for people. Recognised ‘evidence based’ assessment processes such as those designed to identify risks relating to skin integrity and malnutrion were used to inform people’s care and treatment. People’s care was monitored and progress made towards improved outcomes for people with people supported to live healthier lives. Processes were followed to ensure people consented to their care and treatment.
-
Caring
Good
Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the service involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect. We saw staff and people shared warm and kind interactions with one another. Staff were able to respond to people’s immediate needs to promote their dignity, and people were treated as individuals with their independence promoted. Steps were taken to promote an inclusive living and working environment and steps taken to support staff well-being.
-
Responsive
Good
Responsive – this means we looked for evidence that the service met people’s needs. People received care that was person-centred and this was reflected in their care plans. Alternative communication methods were used when needed to ensure information was accessible to people. People’s views were gathered and listened to. Actions were taken to ensure people had equal access to care and support and were connected to their local community. The service aimed to help people achieve good outcomes from their care. People had opportunities to discuss their future needs and wishes.
-
Well-led
Good
Well-Led – this means we looked for evidence that service leadership, management and governance assured high-quality, person-centred care; supported learning and innovation; and promoted an open, fair culture. Leaders communicated the provider’s values in ways that engaged people and staff and included links to the local community. Leaders were supported to develop their skills and capabilities and to work towards achieving equality for their workforce. People and staff felt they were able to ‘speak up’ freely if something was not right. A range of audits and checks helped leaders maintain governance and oversight of the quality and safety of the service. Leaders were open and honest when things could improve and looked to implement learning to make further improvements.
