An assessment has been undertaken of a specialist service that is registered for use by autistic people or people with a learning disability. At the time of the assessment, the service was not used by anyone with a learning disability or an autistic person. However, we assessed the care provision under Right Support, Right Care, Right Culture, as it is registered as a specialist service for this population group.
Care plans contained detailed information about people's health needs and preferences. There were systems in place to safeguard people from abuse. Environmental risks had been assessed and mitigated. Staff had been recruited safely and received a range of training and supervision to support them in their role.
Staff spoke positively about working for the service. Comments included, “It’s really good, [office staff] are all fantastic,” and “There is enough time between calls.”
People’s needs had been assessed prior to them receiving support. There were systems in place to support effective team working, such as a messaging group and team meetings.
People were supported to be independent and have choice and control over their lives. People’s feedback was regularly sought and we saw how leaders had responded to this feedback to organise social events and activities for people.
The service was well managed. The manager had good oversight of the service. People and staff felt able to raise any concerns and felt these would be appropriately responded to.
