Key findings

We carried out this assessment on 5 August 2026. This service was previously rated as good. We carried out this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remains accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard.

Safe systems were in place to ensure people were protected from the risk of avoidable harm. Risk assessments and risk management plans provided detailed information to staff about how to support people and keep them safe. Staff were aware of their responsibilities to safeguard adults from avoidable harm and were aware of the safeguarding adults reporting procedures. Any concerns identified were reported promptly to the local authority. Systems were in place to record, review and learn from any incidents that occurred to continue to ensure care and support met people’s needs.

The provider was in liaison with the London Fire Brigade due to a recent change in fire evacuation procedures and the registered manager was in the process of developing personal emergency evacuation plans for each person living at the service. Staff liaised with the occupational therapy team to ensure people had the equipment they required to meet their needs and live independently.

There were safe recruitment practices in place to ensure suitable staff were employed. Staff completed the provider’s mandatory training and were encouraged to attend additional training courses to ensure their knowledge and skills stayed up to date with best practice. Staff were supported in their roles through a mix of supervision, spot checks, staff meetings and competency checks. Staff were supported and encouraged to develop their skills, and there were a number of ‘champions’ identified at the service in topics such as dementia as well as the role of a care ambassador, to provide further expertise in these areas.

Staff adhered to infection prevention and control procedures, safe medicines management and supported people in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005.

Staff worked in partnership with health and social care professionals to ensure people’s health needs were met and they experienced good outcomes. This included supporting people to access health services in their homes or remotely to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions.

People received kind, considerate care. People received their care at their preferred time and from a small team of staff they knew well. The staff knew people’s life history, their interests and hobbies, and what was important to them. This included knowledge about people’s preference for how and when they wished to be supported with their personal care. Staff were able to provide additional support when required, including support with meals, laundry, domestic duties and companionship calls. Staff were respectful of people’s individual differences and adjustments were made to ensure information was accessible to all, including providing information in additional formats for those that had hearing loss or visual impairments.

There was strong leadership at the service, with an approachable and accessible management team. A member of the duty management team was on duty 24/7 so there was always a member of the management team available should staff or people require them. Staff, people and their relatives were complimentary about the registered manager and felt able to speak openly with them. There were clear governance procedures in place to ensure clear oversight of the service, with a focus on continuous learning and improvement. Recent developments at the service included the introduction of an electronic care records system and electronic medicines administration records which had improved the recording of care delivered. Groups such as the care leaders’ group and the introduction of the care performance management role had improved support and guidance available for the management team.
