The registered manager focussed on the delivery of high quality person centred care to people which relatives confirmed they received. Acknowledging Brand Care is a small service it was evident from our assessment the ethos of the service was providing an exceptionally caring service. The service was keen to showcase the positive impact and experiences it delivered to people throughout the assessment process and their desire to expand and grow the service whilst not impacting on care quality.
Compliments were paid to the kindness and compassion of staff, and how they upheld people’s privacy and dignity. It was clear staff knew people they supported well.
A positive culture within the service was evident. Feedback we received confirmed this. The registered manager was a visible presence within the service, open and transparent acting with integrity and professionalism. The registered manager knew the importance of their role with regard to teamwork, communication and relationships between them, staff and people. People were complimentary about how they were treated with kindness and compassion, and how their privacy and dignity was upheld. People had choice of how their care was arranged and the service encouraged people to remain independent and to maintain relationships with family and friends.
Managerial arrangements were overall effective in the context of the size of the service which supported governance and oversight. A number of audits were undertaken to ensure the service was monitored well and policies and procedures in place complemented this.
Effective systems were in place to assess, manage risk and safeguard people from harm and abuse. People received a comprehensive assessment of their needs prior to support commencing and accompanying care plans and risk assessments were detailed and reflective of people. Care records confirmed people received care according to their needs, wishes and preferences.
Staff were treated equally and understood their roles and responsibilities. They were encouraged to give feedback and were supported well. Staff had received a thorough induction; appropriate training with their competencies monitored through spot checks and regular supervisions.
There were enough suitably experienced and safely recruited staff deployed to ensure care was delivered as planned and at the time it was arranged. Infection Prevention Control (IPC) measures were in place and medicines were managed safely.
