At the time of this assessment, 39 people were living at the service. The assessment was prompted by concerns relating to medicines management, safeguarding, assessing risks, and governance. We carried out a targeted assessment of these areas; however, we did not find any evidence to support the concerns raised. As a result, the rating for the service has remained good.

The service assessed risks to people and updated risk assessments when needed. This meant staff had clear instructions to maintain people’s safety. Safeguarding protocols were in place and staff knew their obligations to protect people from the risk of abuse and reported concerns effectively. The provider made sure people received their medicines safely and as prescribed. Staff were recruited safely, trained and deployed effectively.

The service experienced a period of instability affecting management and staffing arrangements, which had an impact on people using the service, their relatives and the staff team. However, the provider acknowledged the related issues and was already working to address them. The provider collaborated with other organisations and managers led by example. Staff received appropriate support and were comfortable to express their views.

At the time of the assessment, there was no registered manager in post. The assessment was facilitated by the acting manager and area manager, who were overseeing the service. Recruitment of a permanent manager was underway, with the intention that they would register with CQC.
