What inspectors found

From the Care Quality Commission's assessment published 29 July 2024 (assessment visit 2 May 2024). Quoted under the Open Government Licence.

Prince Alfred is a residential care service that provides accommodation and personal care for up to 50 people. It accommodates people across two floors, each of which has separate facilities. At the time of our inspection there were 36 people living at the home. At our last inspection the service was rated good. We initiated this assessment of the service on 2 May 2024. The assessment was prompted by a review of information we held about the service. Following the assessment the service has remained good. We found good practice in relation to risk management and safe and effective staffing. The environment was safe for people to live and there was a learning culture amongst staff and leaders. Safeguarding processes were in place and staff fed back they understood how to keep people safe from harm. Governance systems were robust, and staff felt they could freely raise concerns and be listened to.

  1. Safe

    Good

People were kept safe and protected from harm. Staff understood the course of action to take if someone disclosed an allegation of abuse. People felt appropriate action was taken when they raised concerns and feedback. There was enough trained and qualified staff on shift and staff were recruited safely. Risk assessments contained enough information to help keep people safe. Staff knew how to support people and people told us they had been involved in their care and support plans. Lessons had been learnt from previous shortfalls in this area.

  2. Well-led

    Good

Staff were able to describe the culture and foundation of the organisation. Staff fed back the organisation was a good place to work and they felt valued and cared for. The provider had taken steps to ensure staff had processes to follow if they needed to speak up, and these were clearly communicated through team meetings and staff newsletters. Governance systems were in place and were robust. Everyone fed back they liked the registered manager and felt they were approachable.
